What is the difference between Generic Content and Fine-Tuned Content?

1. Introduction

You can fine-tune, also referred to as customize, the content for each social media channel in Post Builder:

1. Publish Date and Time

2. Caption

3. Media files

If you have customized date and time, media, or caption for different selected social media channels in the second Fine-Tune Content step, returning to the Generic Content step and changing the generic content will not apply to any channels you have customized.

You'll first need to clear any customized updates by checking which channels have customized captions, media, or date & time in the Generic Content panel. Click "See more" to view which channels have customized dates and times, copies, or media files.

Please note that the customized changes to captions, media, or dates & times will override any generic content for all channels that have been customized.

2. How to draft generic content and then customize it

Publish Date & Time in the Generic Content step

When creating a new post in Post Builder, in the first step, Generic Content, you can define a date and time that will apply automatically to all the social channels of your post:

Generic Content (first step)

You can set the caption and upload media for your post in the Generic Content step, which will automatically be applied to all channels you have selected.

Fine-Tune Content (second step)

Then, in the Fine-Tune Content step, you will be able to set a specific publish date and time for each social channel you have selected:

You can also customize the media files or captions for a specific channel.

For example, if you wanted to add some hashtags for X/Twitter, you would add the hashtags only to X/Twitter when customizing the caption for the channel.

For simplicity, the generic date & time are displayed throughout the app, i.e., on your dashboard and in List View, Calendar View, and Post View.

If you update the date & time of your post in the first Generic Content step of Post Builder, that date & time will be displayed accordingly everywhere in Loomly. Unless you need to set a customized date & time for each channel, we recommend that you set the date & time of your post in the first step rather than the second.

💡 Tips:

• You can ungroup posts from Calendar View to see each social media channel's scheduled date and time.

• If you have a post variation, you have customized publish dates and times, captions, or media files for at least one social media channel.

3. How to edit fine-tuning

You can clear fine-tuning for the date, copy, media, or all on the post or channel level.

• Clear fine-tuning at the post-level by going to Generic Content and expanding the note.

  • Clear all date fine-tuning

  • Clear all copy fine-tuning

  • Clear all media fine-tuning

  • Clear All Fine-tuning (date & time, caption, and media)

⚠️ Please note that all customizations, such as mentions, media metadata, and dates & times, will be cleared for all channels with the Clear All Fine-tuning button.

• Clear fine-tuning at the channel level by going to the fine-tuning panel, picking a specific channel with fine-tuning

  • Reset date changes to clear only the customized date & time for the channel you are viewing

• Reset copy changes to clear only the customized caption in the text field for the channel you are viewing

• Reset media changes to clear only the customized media for the channel you are viewing

• Clear All Fine-tuning to clear all customized scheduling, copy, and media for the channel you are viewing

a. How to edit customized publish date & time

Are there any channels with customized dates & times?

• If no, change the Select a date and time to publish field in the Generic Content step.

• If yes:

  • Please update the date & time in the Fine-Tune Content step for each channel with customized publishing dates and times; otherwise, the rescheduling won't be applied to any channels with fine-tuned dates.

  • Otherwise, you can clear fine-tuning at the post or channel level.

    • Clear the customized dates and times in the Generic Content step to apply the generic scheduling to all channels.

    • Clear all fine-tuning to reset all publishing dates & times, captions, and media to the generic version or reset date changes in the Fine-Tune Content panel for a specific channel.

📝 Note: If a post has not yet been published to at least one channel, you can easily drag & drop ungrouped posts in Calendar View to change the date of a post.

b. How to edit customized captions

Are there any channels with fine-tuned captions?

• If no, edit the caption in Generic Content and save the post.

• If yes:

  • Please update the caption in Fine-tune Content for each channel with customized captions; otherwise, the caption updates won't be applied to any channels with customized captions.

  • Otherwise, you can clear fine-tuning at the post or channel-level.

    • Clear the fine-tuned captions in the Generic Content step to have the generic caption applied to all channels.

    • Clear all fine-tuning to reset all customized captions, media, and publish dates & times to the generic version, or reset caption changes in the fine-tuning panel for a specific channel.

c. How to edit customized media files

• You can replace media files in the Fine-Tune Content step for a specific channel by removing, adding, or replacing the generic media upload.

• To clear any customized changes:

  • You can press Reset media changes if you have any customized media in the fine-tuning steps to reapply the generic media files for that channel.

  • Clear the fine-tuned media in the Generic Content step to have the generic media applied to all channels. Note that you must redo all customized media settings such as cover images, titles, tags, etc.
